The Kiss Quotient (2018)

A beautiful novel with interesting characters and a welcome break from the usual plot lines.

Stella Lane believes that arithmetic is the only thing that connects the cosmos. She creates algorithms to forecast client purchases, a career that has given her more money than she knows what to do with and far less dating experience than the typical 30-year-old. It doesn’t help that she has Asperger’s syndrome and that French kissing makes her think of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by a pilot fish. She thinks she needs a lot of practice – with a professional – and hires escort Michael Phan.

“The Kiss Quotient is a superbly written book with endearing characters, genuine difficulties, and comprehensible conflict; it is a lot of fun to read.”

The Hunger Games (2008)

Every year, Panem (post-apocalyptic North America) hosts a Hunger Games involving one female and one male representative from each of its twelve districts to fight to the death. All of the Districts of Panem must watch the Games as a form of yearly "entertainment" when in actuality, it's a power play put on by the Capitol (the wealthiest of the districts). The Capitol uses the Games as a way to demonstrate the sheer helplessness of the other Districts and to keep the population cowed and in fear.
